A Mighty Heart: Movie or a “Message” to Pakistan?

Posted by Khushal Khan on January 13th, 2008

I don’t know why i even wanted to review this particular movie, though it was not upto the mark in my opinion if it comes to story or direction but well patriot that i am i really wanted to mention it, just a glimpse of what the western media wanted to convey to Pakistan.

A Mighty Heart” is a Hollywood film based on a true story about the tragic incident of an American born Jewish journalist Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped from Karachi and than later murdered. Its cast includes Angelina Jolie as Marriane Pearl and ( not to forget a portion of role from Adnan Siddiqui and Sajid Hassan (the two top actors in the Pakistan Tele Media)).The movie is taken from Marriane Pearl’s own book with the same name that she later penned down after the murder of her husband which is than filmed into the afro mentioned Movie.

The movie as i saw it was all about plenty of questions that lead to Daniel Pearl’s murder, the journalist is shown as a decent man who went far from his job to interview an Islamic Fundamentalist Sheikh Gillani that in the end turned out to be a plot designed by Ahmed Omer Sheikh (the guy who was released from an Indian jail after a hostage swap between the indian government for the hundreds of hostages in a hijacked plane way back in year 2000) who is later captured and commits the fact that his fellows killed him just because he was a Jew, and that American’s are not treating the prisoner’s at Guantanamo Bay humanly. An evidence video tape than later confirms the death of Daniel Pearl.

What i took from the movie was that it was not just a movie but a message to Pakistan about how evil our society is, how weird our thinking is specially when the Indian Journalist is termed as an Indian Spy and Daniel as the agent of Moosad in the movie. They also kept on doing sarcasm over the way the intelligence agencies in Pakistan carry out the proceedings of an investigation neglecting the fact that they tried there level best and finally reached the criminals but after the journalist was murdered. Only the ending of the movie and a few words from Angelina Jolie (Marriane Pearl) made my day when she said something in an interview with the CNN not blaming the country or a race or a portion of people from some religion to be behind her husbands death but an International and Un-Human groups of people responsible while she leaves the country as a widow to continue with her remaining life.

I don’t have much problem with the movie, but respect is what they missed which should have been there. Not much more to say.!!! Won’t recommend the movie even!

Heroes - The TV Series~

Posted by Khushal Khan on December 8th, 2007

Heroes is an amazing TV series like Prison Break( my all time favorite ) from the NBC, it is a story about some amazing people on the earth who thought they were normal people like others until at some stage of their life they tend to realize they have abilities that makes them special, for instance healing instantly after getting a bruise, flying, painting the future, teleporting oneself to future and stopping the time, hearing the rain from 40 miles, melting the metal when touched etc. These special people than realize how important role they have in saving the humanity while some bad among them like Sylar ( a character ) who learns that by grabbing the brains of such special humans he can take his power continues on killing other special people like him. From what i’ve seen so far in the first 18 episodes of Heroes i thought the Cheerleader’s father (owner of a printer cartridges and paper factory) but in real working for some gang who are on a mission that could lead to a disaster was the main culprit but the more i progressed with watching the series it looks more like his love for his adopted special daughter was way beyond anyone could imagine.

Sorry i am speaking as if you’ve all seen it, anyways if you haven’t done so far so the Season 1 with 23 episodes and Season 2 with 11 episodes have already been aired. Don’t miss to watch it since its a great time killer as well as consisting of a nice story~

We Won the Video Competition in the campus:)

Posted by Khushal Khan on October 26th, 2007

The students of BCS arranged a Multimedia Video,Photography and Sketching competition in the campus yesterday, the event was very well organized and many students participated in it. Me and my friend Shoaib Anwer who is a very regular viewer and commenter in this blog participated in the Video competition category, we were asked to make a video of maximum 6 minutes duration that conveys a message. Hats off to Shoaib who made a video on the theme “Live to Love” , portraying different scenes shot in Peshawar out side the uni and in the bazaars, some drug related scenes and scenes from the 12th May incident, daily life, smoking, killing etc. In short the theme was to avoid killing and racial discrimination as life is too short , live it to love and not to hate others, the video was than smartly edited and made presentable by the use of softwares like Pinnacle, Ulead and Windows Movie Maker.

The Chief Guest for the competition was Zeeshan Perwez from Zeepar Studios , you all know him right?. We saw many great videos from the fellow university mates and personally thought some were far better than ours because of the advanced use of effects and animations, but the judge had something different in mind, he emphasized more on the concept and execution of the video rather than just the effects. We were glad that we got the first position overall, and yeah, all the credit goes to Shoaib who shot and edited the entire video, the concept also came from him. Thanks to all the classmates who help us shot the rebellious “Kill Rushdi” Scene full of violence.

After the results announcement we had a good discussion with the judge, who gave us some tips on how to make a video better and appealing, and he really appreciated our work.

Three Cheers for Shoaib (Show ON Production) Lolz!

Random Bullshit~

Posted by Khushal Khan on September 8th, 2007

I am Off mind and dead brains these days, nothing else gathers in the mind except local random bullshit.I have monthly exam on the coming monday and am yet to find some “Laik Parhakoo” friend to grab the notes and pass ;) . Its sunday today and the day was terribly awesomely bad… I don’t know why although the weather was rocking but i felt lonely despite being surrounded by a group of bullshitters.

And yeah i just found something, another tune copying and same style…. most of you’ve heard the great song “Wake me up when September Ends” by Green Day probably, If you did and you also happened to have stumbled over the OST of the Indian Movie “Shootout at Lokhandwala” that was sung by the popular Pakistani band “String” and the song titled as “Akhri Alvida Na Ho” just watch the comparison between the tune. The tune is a 100% copy of the Green Day’s version. Is Bollywood out of tunes or what? They claim to be the 4th Largest Film Making industry in the world and… anyways that is old news. In the old times some 6 years ago i guess i saw a program on TV hosted by the legendary artist “Zia Mohiuddin” titled as “Dhun Hamaree Tumharay Naam Huwee”, it was a program that highlighted the top songs stolen in tunes by the Bollywood from the Pakistani Pop Industry, had you seen that than you would have really enjoyed and would be angry at how they are cashing in on the tunes made by us…. but hey our industry is also a copycat but very minimal as compared to them.

And yeah, i was late to download Umbrella by Rihanna but the song truly rocks and is on my repeat…so “You all can stand under my Umbrella”

P.S: This is probably the dumbest post i did;) but i had to am addicted to Wordpress now~

Orkut’s new features and the BETA Story~

Posted by Khushal Khan on August 20th, 2007

For some of you who happen to read my blog are probably aware of what Orkut is since you come from regions where Orkut like sites are probably most popular than ever, am addicted to it too anyways. Orkut was launched probably 4 years back if am not wrong as a better alternative to Hi5 with its slow loading and poor features and navigation as well as a nearly competitor to the biggy MySpace. Since its launch Orkut has been in the beta phase and still in the beta phase despite the fact that in the past 2 years not much development has been done in its enhancement though it was acquired by Google the year it was made. How it was made is another story, but from what i heard was that a guy named Orkut (His profile is there on Orkut ) and a student at Stanford did the source code of this wonderful social networking website which after being loved by Google as another tool to enhance there web-empire was acquired by it, since than it has grown wonderfully well in the South American countries of Brazil that demographically is the biggest user of it and Souther Asian Countries of Pakistan and India are also among the top 10 users of Orkut. Orkut is as double as popular as the other rival Facebook (another social networking website with extra advanced features) but Orkut’s dominance in the countries is increasing because of the ease of its use. Not to forget MySpace and Facebook are a bit less user friendly despite the fact that Myspace has triple traffic (as per Alexa where Orkut is 8 and MySpace is 6th) and features as much as orkut has but its mainly because of its age and secondly because of the users that mostly are from European countries where average user has basic knowledge at least to modify and customize his/her profile with HTML.

I am not going to get much into details but i just thought to post my views when i saw the new Orkut page although using the same old logo, but not to forget that Orkut recently introduced a similar myspace feature to be able to scrap your friends with Images, gif, glitters etc using HTML codes, although one can’t modify his profile’s look and theme but still something is better than nothing. To some up all, Orkut is still and will be in the beta phase and once its out of the beta we hope to see it go many a miles as much as good as MySpace where its not only a networking site where you can find friends and members but a complete portal with great features like blogs, bands profiles, events, directories , news and a hell big bunch of a lot more.

UPDATE: Maliha said that there are add-ons available that can pimp up your orkut profile but wait, i am already aware of these add-ons that require you to install Greasemonkey (A Firefox add-on) and than you can install the Orkut themes but they appear only to you and only people with Greasemonkey add add-on installed can view them, and i can bet that 99% of Orkut users have never even heard of what a Greasemonkey add-on is. We want customization abilities that can be seen by all. Hope that sums up!~~~

The Best and Worst of American Idol!

Posted by Khushal Khan on July 12th, 2007

The American Idol was a popular show that gained so much fame in the past that it went far by continents to Australian Idol,Swedish Idol and so much so much that it finally arrived Asia in the form of Indian Idol. The reason behind American Idol’s so much fame is that not many of us (in Pakistan mostly) are able to get subscription’s of channel’s that bring other interactive and exclusive shows. For instance my satellite subscription allows me to watch only American Idol among the Reality TV Fantasy League and not other shows like America’s got talent (the show that gave a Pakistani individual based in USA,Kashif Memon great fame after he made it to the top 20 with his extraordinary performance).

Ok since i was here talking about the best and worst of American Idol, i just get it to watch on AAG TV daily in the morning when its time for me to sleep and others to wake up but thats another story, the best are really worth appraisal but the worst are probably the worst you could ever get to see, for instance there was this one guy upon interviewing him it was found out that he has never seen a single show of American Idol and he just walked in for the fun of it when he came into the audition room, my goodness he sucked more than hell with his truly irritating voice but wait , he wasn’t just singing “he was causing pollution, yeah Noise pollution as i would call it”, many other stories of the worst in the auditions like a girl who would not walk out of the room unless she said she was given the “Ticket to Hollywood”, damn these American’s just can’t admit there voices suck!!!

On the other hand when it comes to the best, yes there were a few ones that were really awesome, for instance a young girl of 17 who when asked to sing could probably sing “mimic” every singer that she was asked to sing a song of, than there was a young Indian who truly impressed me with his mesmerizing voice! Yes this show rocks!

P.S: If you want to see The best and worst of American Idol if in Pakistan with a normal cable subscription, tune into AAG TV daily in the morning from 10-11 AM.

“Shakira-Kiyani” and “Zaki-Satriano” drowned in the ‘’pith” of nodes!

Posted by Khushal Khan on July 11th, 2007

Though the music rocks, Yes it rocks and why wouldn’t it when it comes from the best Guitarist in Pakistan Amir Zaki, and the Lyrics for the song are also great! but what exactly was Hadiqa trying to do in the latest English song “Too many Lies” featuring both her and Amir Zaki.

Ok the song starts with a kick ass guitaring from “Zaki-Satriano” as i’ll call him but when the vocalist pops in with her “Pakistani accent” English, dressed like Shakira, made over like Shakira, hair style and hair color like Shakira, sitting in a pool of black water like the background arrangment of a typical Shakira song, you saw wow!~ At first sight you’ll feel like its for sure her, but after a while you’ll realize that you are listening to a great english songs with an extraordinary music and lyrics in the best possible presentation of Video that is truly Inspired from the West.

On the other hand i really appreciate the style of Amir Zaki that is not unique yet the only style available for guitarists when it comes to be filmed in a Video. The music was great, balanced and sweet for the ears.

I am not against Hadiqa Kiyani or her songs but the way this video was made is not up to my mark, not that is poor quality or bad but just because its a totally western inspiration and not a unique production.

Hadiqa my personal suggestion for you “You’re a cute looking and charming lady from a culture that wants people like you to represent it all over the world, not that you copy others culture and present it in your own culture” and by the way your hairstyle rocks;) though its also inspired but suits you.Overall i rate 6/10 for this song!
